An oldie that totally held up over time!
I have never been a Meryl Streep fan, but she is awesome in this movie.

I read the book years ago and loved it.

Chairs of Bisbee

I saw the announcement downtown: ATTENTION ARTISTS / BISBEE WOMAN'S CLUB PRESENTS / CHAIRS OF BISBEE

hmmmm...

We are looking for artists to decorate a chair in any medium.

oh my...interesting

Quick check of the dates...November 5, 2006...Opening reception / November 25 & 26 ... Final Bidding...

okay...I'm IN...Where do I sign up???

Well it actually was not the first time I had heard of CHAIRS OF BISBEE but it was the first time I had heard of CHAIRS OF BISBEE since I considered myself an ARTIST...

sooooo....I will be updating regularly about my CHAIRS OF BISBEE entries...progress, frustrations, excitements...and of course the FINAL RESULTS!!!

Finding My First Chair

I stopped at the thrift shop over in Warren (one of the parts of Bisbee). They had one wooden chair in stock. (I had already decided on wooden chairs.) So I bought it. The price was right ($3.00) and the only thing I could see wrong with it was a missing spindle in the back. (Hey that is just a challenge...and opportunity...not a problem!)

So here is my chair...

I know I want to do at least two chairs...
I have ideas for two chairs...

The hope is that I will find at least one chair that is an inspiration to me for a third or fourth or fifth chair...

Yes, I decided on wooden chairs. But now I have decided that metal chairs would be fine. Would be excellent, in fact. So now the only rules are: No PLASTIC or UPHOLSTERED chairs.

I haven't found any more chairs yet, but I truth be told, I will probably actually have to leave my house to find more chairs. Very few people actually drop chairs off at my house...but hey...if you have a great chair that you are getting rid of...and are going to be in the Bisbee area in the next month or so....

I just read...

A wonderful book!!!

I just watched...

Bridget Jones's Diary.

I read the book years ago, and enjoyed it. It is fluff, but fun fluff. (Say that 5 times fast!) This is one of the rare instances I will say I thought the movie was better than the book. Perhaps it is because I had forgotten just how cute and sexy Hugh Grant is. (Okay I know Hugh Grant is a pig in real life...but I was able to suspend belief for the duration of the movie.) Perhaps it is because Rene Zellwiger was so adorable (a word I NEVER EVER EVER use.) At any rate, it was a fun fluffy evening of Bridget Jones's Diary.

My Favorite Part of the Process...ANTICIPATION

When I am making my polymer clay dolls, my favorite part of the process, is after I have baked the heads and bodies. (I generally bake early in the morning, as I live in Arizona, and even though they cook at 275, it still heats up the house!) After they cool, I paint them white. I start putting pieces together. Heads to bodies.

At this point I might have some ideas about what they will look like when finished, but often I don't. I look at them. I move pieces around, trying different bodies with different heads. In this case I have already glued some of the bodies and heads together.

All the fun stuff happens next. Selecting the paint or paper or fabric they will be covered with. The fibers or milagros or other embelishments that will be added. Their faces will take on personality as I select the features I want to highlight, and the paints or glitters that I will use.

But right now...for this moment...while they are just painted white...that is my favorite part...

To see some of the actual dolls that have been created go to my Doll A Day Shop on Etsy.

I just read...

Sorry Peggy, but you and I will just have to agree to disagree about Mary Karr's memoirs...

Some people (including Peggy) love this book. Me...not so much...

Making ETSY a household name...

Do you remember the first time you ever heard of eBay? I do. Someone I worked with mentioned that she had gone there to look for games. This was years ago. I had no idead what eBay was. eBay has become a household word, and an enormously successful idea.

Well, if this is the first time you have heard of Etsy...remember it!

It is my desire to see Etsy become a household word. And you can help...spread the word...

"For those of you who haven't checked this out yet, there is a
fairly new website that now has an enormous selection of items --
all handcrafted (except for one catagory of supplies for us
handcrafters)... you will never have to look anywhere else for
gifts! There is everything from household to clothes to jewelry
to "geekery" (love that catagory!) and for all age brackets. I urge
you to check this out and to buy direct from these handcrafters, all
of whom -- like me -- dream of making a living from their art.

www.etsy.com

is the place -- and if you have direct online (ie non-dial-up) be
sure to check out their Time Travel and Shop By Color interactive
features -- very fun!

I think it just hasn't been found by shoppers yet, and there's still
time to get great bargains!"

The above quote by a fellow etsy shopkeeper.

I too invite you to visit the site. It is fun. There are great bargains. And, it supports artists and craftspeople. (All good stuff!)

In particular, I invite you to visit my shops.

I post a new art doll here every day.dolladay

I have blank greeting cards and magnets and art doll pins here.ladyartichokeheart

Become a patron of the arts...shop Etsy!!!

This Is Not Turning into a Blog about Project Runway

I promise. But I do have one more quick thing to add.

If you go to How Was Your Day Dan? and check out the August 2nd post, including the comments....well...I laughed, I cried, I crawled on my belly like a snake. If you are into Project Runway and all the drama around the designer that was going to be asked to leave the show...well...this is some funny stuff.

Okay...back to your regularly scheduled blog. No more Project Runway until at least...next Monday.

Project Runway Reprise

There are are online groups devoted to Project Runway (I personally belong to two yahoo groups). There are blogs galore, some devoted exclusively to Project Runway, some (like this one) which includes occasional (or frequent) entries about Project Runway.

I want to be surprised and entertained by each episode, but there are apparently a lot of people who want to try and figure out everything before an episode airs. They search for clues in the previews. They compare notes of randomly reported comments by the designers. (And OMG have you seen Heidi's new Victoria's Secret ads???) I find it all quite fun and quite silly. (And I DO mean SILLY in a good way!)

I have a blog that I would like to share with other Project Runway fans. When life gets too serious...or when your obsession with Project Runway becomes overpowering...check out Project RunGay

Too Funny!!! And...a good reminder not to take myself too seriously.
